Looking for hoka alternatives? I got you covered. Hokas are great shoes, yet they can be expensive and are starting to become a bit mainstream. I did the digging to find my favorite alternatives to hokas that have just as many great features, if not more. Lets dive right into it.

the best cheaper hoka alternatives

1. Lululemon Women's Blissfeel 2 Running Shoe

This shoe was the result of four years of crazy research before its launch. Designed with a women-first focus, it was made from data based on over one million Volumental foot scans, for that perfect fit for us women. The shoe is also cushioned, providing a responsive bounce-back effect with every step, making it super comfortable for all-day wear.

2. New Balance Women's Fresh Foam New balance Running Shoe

I did some research on Tiktok to see if anyone found hoka dupes and this girl was raving about these New Balance fresh foams. Not only are they cheaper, but she says that it feels like "walking on marshmallows."

They are made for running but can be a great walking shoe that is also cute.

3. Asics GEL-Nimbus 26

The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 26 is all about comfort and performance. It features GEL™ technology in the heel and forefoot for great shock absorption and FF BLAST™ PLUS cushioning that gives a lightweight bounce with every step. Overall, it’s cushioned, responsive, and super comfortable for everything from long runs to all-day wear.

One verified buyer said, "I have worn several models of this shoe for the past several years and I have liked them all. This one is great as well. I love the extra cushioning as I have had planter fasciitis in the past. I have only worn them for 30 minutes on a treadmill, but there is no breaking in period needed as with all of my previous pairs. To me that is the determining factor. I only walk, not run, but I do walk long distances often. They look great and feel great. I would highly recommend these."

4. Brooks Glycerin GTS 21

Brooks Running

If you’re looking for a shoe that combines comfort and support, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 21 is a solid choice. With GuideRails® technology, it helps keep your feet aligned and minimizes excess movement, which is a lifesaver if you tend to overpronate. You’ll love the DNA LOFT cushioning that runs the full length of the shoe—it's super soft and plush, making every step feel cushy, yet it still responds well when you pick up the pace.

On the plus side, it’s perfect for longer runs or daily wear if you need that extra stability. But keep in mind, it’s a bit heavier than some other options, and the cushioning might feel too soft if you prefer a firmer ride. Overall, it’s a great option if comfort is your top priority!

One verified purchaser said, "Absolutely in LOVE! 10/10 recommend if you need a stable sneaker. I was using Hokas Bondi before that was causing my knee issues but these are heaven sent! I am using them to train for my half marathon and use for them and I’m so excited! I can’t wait to order more!"

5. On Cloudmonster Sneakers Cloudmonster Sneakers

My husband has these and loves them. Not only do they add height, but they really feel like you're walking on clouds with its cloudTec technology. These sneakers are designed for running - short or long distance.

6. Alo Runner Sneaker Unisex

Leave it up to Alo to make a comfortable and cute sneaker for men and women. I have the Alo Recovery Sneaker and they are the most comfortable walking shoes - so comfy that I would walk 30,000 steps a day with them in Florence, Italy.

These unisex sneakers are great hoka alternatives because of its grip pods and cushioned outsole. Just keep in mind that it might not have the best arch support, so if you have flat feet these may not be for you.

7. Amazon Women's Slip On Walking Shoes: Best Affordable Hoka Alternative

These not only look exactly like hokas with the better price tag, but a lot of great reviews on Amazon prime.

One verified purchaser said, "I have all kinds of shoe brands. Pricey ones. They are great. I am postpartum and feet are not the size and width they used to be. I'm on feet for Nursing shifts and wanted reasonably priced shoes. After alot of searching bought these. I wear a 9.5- 10 and bought 11. They fit perfect. Not to narrow, room for toes to move, and soooooo comfortable. they really feel like my brooks or basics. I'm going to buy a few more pair in the other colors. lol. So worth it!!!"

According to a couple people on Reddit, these are a great hoka alternative especially if you have plantar fasciitis.

One verified purchaser said, "I have a lot of foot problems, including plantar fasciitis, very high arches and over-pronation. These are the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn. They are super well-cushioned and so far, seem effective at reducing my overpronation. I walk 3-4 miles every day, and these sneakers have significantly reduced my foot pain. I love them!"

9. Amazon NORTIV 8 Women's Walking Shoes: Best Affordable Hoka Dupes

These look even better than the original hokas! Not only are they on sale for $38 but they are on the Amazon choice list. Some cons that I took from reading the reviews is that some customers said it did look a little cheap.

One verified purchaser said, "From the moment I put these shoes on, I felt instant relief. I think they were great comparison to a Hoka Sneaker. Lightweight, breathable, big cushion, soul that really Take the impact off of your heel. I would definitely buy another pair of these again and again!"

10. Brooks Women's Adrenaline GTS 22 Supportive Running Shoe

If I had to choose a brand that's closest to the fit, feel, and look of hokas it would be Brooks. These Adrenaline GTS 22 sneakers are known for its exceptional cushioning and responsive ride, making it an excellent choice for runners who prioritize comfort and support during long-distance training.

These could be worn to the gym or out with friends on a casual day out.

The New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v13 is ideal for beginner runners and those who prioritize comfort on easy runs. It suits people who prefer a soft, cushioned shoe that provides ample support, specifically heel strikers. However, it might not be the best fit for runners.

hoka alternatives for walking

I own a pair of Hoka Bondis, and they make for a fantastic walking shoe. However, they tend to wear out faster than I'd like. Some great hoka alternatives for walking are On Cloud and New Balance. To be specific, I wear the Coudnova sneaker and the New Balance 530 sneakers. Keep in mind these are JUST for walking. Not only do they look look (not like the nerdy chunky athletic sneaker)—but they are incredibly comfortable. During my two-mile morning walks, my feet feel great, and they last much longer than my Hokas.

why is hoka so popular now?

Hoka's popularity has really taken off lately, and it’s not hard to see why. Their shoes have amazing cushioning with stability, making them a runners best friend. I can also attest they are lightweight and come in unique color ways.

On top of that, Hoka has made some strategic collaborations with designers and streetwear brands, giving their shoes a fashionable edge that appeals to a wider crowd. With a strong focus on quality and innovation, their fan base continues to increase.

However, not everyone is a fan. Some runners find the chunky design to be uncomfortable and prefer a more traditional shoe shape. Additionally, a few users have reported issues with durability and fit, noting that the shoes may not be the best option for those with specific foot types.
