My Favorite Bra Alternatives From Someone Who Hates Bras

|

Time to read 6 min

As someone who can't stand feeling uncomfortable, I've spent a lot of time and effort finding ways to skip wearing bras. Besides being uncomfortable, bras can also be a bit restrictive and aren’t the healthiest if worn all day, every day. So, I’ve put together my favorite bra alternatives that keep you looking polished and put-together—without any of the discomfort.

The best bra alternatives

1. SKIMS T-SHIRT DEMI BRALETTE

Skims offers fantastic wireless bras and bralettes, crafted from super soft, comfy materials that still provide the shape and support of a traditional bra. The Wireless Demi Bra is lightly lined for comfort, contours the bust for a smooth finish, and includes adjustable straps, fitting true to size.

One verified customer said, "This wireless form T shirt bra is by far the best, most comfortable bra IVE EVER HAD. No joke I'm only buying my bras from here !!!"

2. Negative Underwear Cotton Bralette

Negative

If you have not heard of Negative Underwear, they are definitely making waves in the loungwear and intimates industry. Their products are pricey, but made with such good quality and soft fabrics your skin will love you for. They have so many options to choose from too. While you're at it, also check out their best-selling whipped non-wire bralette too.

If there is one review that made me feature this bra alternative on here its this one: "I've reviewed the Negative Cotton Bralette before and will just say that I will only by my bras from Negative from now on because they're game changers for me. This bralette is so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing it. It's also supremely flattering and I find the support to be just right. I was hesitant about wearing an unlined bra but now that I've tried this style (and several others from Negative), I will never go back. No padding, no inserts, no underwire, no clasps on this bralette...this design is a dream. I'm 5'5", 117lbs, a size D in Victoria's Secret (which I think should actually be a C, but everything is sized differently these days), and wear a size 3 in all Negative bras."

3. Amazon Nippies Adhesive Nipple Cover: Best Bra For Backless Dress

As someone who has a small bust, I wear these pretty much everyday. I don't think I have touched a bra in a year after buying these. These are perfect to wear with a tight top, camisole, and can ever be worn with dresses.  The beauty of these is that you don't have to go through the hassle of hiding straps and have the freedom to wear any type of top or dress you want without hiding anything. The cherry on top is that Amazon is having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal on these right now.

4. Commando Butter Soft-Support Strapless Bralette

The Butter Soft Support Strapless Bralette from Commando is amazing—it’s made from this insanely soft Austrian modal blend, which feels so nice against your skin. It has a molded cup for support and removable padding, plus those raw-cut edges give it that smooth, barely-there feel. It even has an adjustable back closure to help it fit just right. If you’re between sizes, definitely go up for the best fit! I think this is perfect for a strapless top or dress without feeling uncomfortable.

best bra alternatives for large busts

When searching for bra alternatives as someone with a large bust, it's important to focus on the right fabrics and fit. For instance, if you're looking for a bralette, choose one that’s both stretchy and compressive, with adjustable sizing in the back (like a hook and eye closure). This way, you can easily customize the fit based on how you're feeling that day. My favorite one from the list is the Harper Wilde Bralette and the Aerie Smoothez Padded Bralette. When opting out of bralettes, I would say that the Amazon Nippies are by far my go-to. If you are looking for something more affordable, check out these 5-pack nipple covers for under $10!

Is it healthier to go braless?

There are a few potential benefits and drawbacks when it comes to wearing bras. On the positive side, some people say going braless can improve circulation and lymphatic flow, which can help you feel more comfortable throughout the day. So, if you’re someone who experiences constant discomfort from bras, it might be a good idea to cut them out or try alternatives from time to time. Going braless can also reduce the risk of infections caused by sweat, which can lead to bacterial infections or rashes.

On the downside, going braless can cause back pain, especially if you're used to wearing bras. It can also affect your posture, as bras help you stand taller and more upright, much like a back brace.
