As someone who can't stand feeling uncomfortable, I've spent a lot of time and effort finding ways to avoid wearing the bras in my closet. The only time I lean in to real bras is when I absolutely need to for a wedding gown or a specific top. Besides being uncomfortable, bras can also be a bit restrictive and aren’t the healthiest for our breasts if worn all day and everyday.
So, I’ve put together my favorite bra alternatives that keep you still looking professional without any discomfort.
Skims is my #1 when it comes to bra alternatives. This wireless demi bralette is lightly lined, contours your bust, and has adjustable straps so it actually feels supportive without the wires. I’ve worn mine nonstop, and it still holds its shape.
One reviewer summed it up perfectly: “This is the most comfortable bra I’ve ever owned. No joke, I’m only buying bras from here now.”
But if you don’t want to splurge on Skims, there are other options…
Negative is one of those new brands that’s getting a ton of love lately. Their pieces are pricey, but the fabric is insanely soft and lightweight - it feels luxe compared to most basics. I especially love the cotton bralette (though their Whipped non-wire bralette is also a bestseller).
One review that stuck with me: “This bralette is so comfortable I forget I’m wearing it. I was hesitant about unlined bras, but now I’ll never go back.”
If Skims feels too mainstream and you want something a little more elevated, this is your pick.

As someone who has a small bust, I wear these pretty much everyday. I don't think I have touched a bra in a year after buying these. These are perfect to wear with a tight top, camisole, and can ever be worn with dresses. The beauty of these is that you don't have to go through the hassle of hiding straps and have the freedom to wear any type of top or dress you want without hiding anything. The cherry on top is that Amazon is having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal on these right now.

This bralette is made from this soft Austrian modal blend, which feels so nice against my skin. It has a molded cup for support and removable padding, plus those raw-cut edges make it feel like you are not even wearing anything.
It even has an adjustable back closure. Side note, if you’re between sizes, definitely go up for the best fit! I think this is perfect for a strapless top or dress without feeling uncomfortable.

This looks like a great Skims dupe. This bralette was recommended by so many people and for good reason. The fabric is super stretchy, smooth, and seamless so it feels like you're not wearing anything. It has removable pads, adjustable straps, plus comes in extended sizes for my plus size girlies.
One happy customer said, "Incredible! Very shapely and comfortable! I have medium/big droopy boobs and am committed to only wearing comfortable wireless bras anyway because life shouldn’t be less enjoyable just because of boob shape! And this bra proves it is doable!!! I will order more of these for sure."

This looks sooo comfortable! It’s Negative’s wireless bralette, made from their best-selling Sieve power mesh. I would wear this underneath a crisp white t-shirt or even a loose silk chiffon blouse and jeans.
One happy customer said, "This bra is the BEST BRA I’ve ever worn. For reference, I’m a 34E/130lb/ 71 year old. If anyone needs support, it’s me! The designers created a bra beyond expectations: the fabric is lightweight, breathable, with exceptional support, comfort all while delivering great lines and makes me feel pretty. I think magic was involved!"

This 2-pack bralette from quince is jjust under $30. With no underwire or padding, it fits like a dream, and the soft, breathable fabric plus adjustable straps make it easy to get a perfect fit.
One verified purchaser left a review and said, "This bra is by far the most comfortable bra I have ever worn. I normally hate being harnessed in with wires, pads, and all around uncomfortable material. This bra was so comfortable I barely knew I was wearing a bra. I highly recommend."

I recently discovered this brand and am obsessed with everything about them. These nipple covers can be reused 50-100 times with proper care, and the best part, they’re SKIN SAFE! Wearing non-toxic nipple covers is so important, especially if, like me, you wear them almost every day. They’re a bit pricey, but the number of uses makes them totally worth it.

When searching for bra alternatives as someone with a large bust, it's important to focus on the right fabrics and fit. For instance, if you're looking for a bralette, choose one that’s both stretchy and compressive, with adjustable sizing in the back (like a hook and eye closure). This way, you can easily customize the fit based on how you're feeling that day. My favorite one from the list is the Harper Wilde Bralette and the Aerie Smoothez Padded Bralette. When opting out of bralettes, I would say that the Amazon Nippies are by far my go-to. If you are looking for something more affordable, check out these 5-pack nipple covers for under $10!
There are a few potential benefits and drawbacks when it comes to wearing bras. On the positive side, some people say going braless can improve circulation and lymphatic flow, which can help you feel more comfortable throughout the day. So, if you’re someone who experiences constant discomfort from bras, it might be a good idea to cut them out or try alternatives from time to time. Going braless can also reduce the risk of infections caused by sweat, which can lead to bacterial infections or rashes.
On the downside, going braless can cause back pain, especially if you're used to wearing bras. It can also affect your posture, as bras help you stand taller and more upright, much like a back brace.
