As Fall and Winter approach, a lot of you guys have been asking me to find an affordable alternative to the Toteme scarf jacket. I personally love the style of the jacket and think it's very innovative. If you’re not familiar, the Toteme scarf jacket is a wool coat with an attached scarf and tassels that instantly give that effortless, Scandinavian chic vibe.
I bought some of these dupes myself and can attest that they are very close to the original. From the fabric composition, the fit, and the sizing, I am here to say you don't need to spend over $1,000 for this infamous scarf jacket. I thought I’d start off with the original Toteme scarf jacket so you can compare it side by side with the alternatives below. It’s made from a soft double-faced wool and has that built-in scarf with tassels (what makes the jacket so famous in my opinion). It has a more oversized boxy fit that layers well with either sweaters or a turtleneck. It’s unlined but still feels structured, and I’d say it runs true to size, but if you’re between sizes or want a closer fit, go down one. And it retails for $1,190USD.

If you know me, you know I love Quince for their great quality and affordable pieces. This is the closest dupe I’ve found online and honestly, I think it’s even better than the original.
The Toteme scarf jacket isn’t actually 100% wool; it’s 88% wool and 12% polyester. The Quince version, on the other hand, is made from 100% Merino wool. It’s also made in Cambodia, while the Toteme one is made in China. There are tons of great reviews on this jacket too, with one customer even saying the fabric feels like Loro Piana!

This scarf jacket from Saks Off Fifth is on sale, plus you get an extra 40% off at checkout! It’s not made from wool. It’s 100% polyester, which makes sense given the lower price tag. If you want something that looks similar and don’t care too much about the composition, this is a great option. It also comes in white and black if beige isn’t your color. This jacket also looks a little more fitted and less oversized than the other options - a good option if you want something more structured.
This one is 100% cashmere and under $300 (currently on sale). If you are not familiar with this brand, Naadam is known for its great quality cashmere at a very reasonable price point. This scarf jacket has a V neckline which is a little bit different from the original and the scarf is detachable.
It’s also made from their highest grade of cashmere. I’d pair this with black leggings or jeans and knee-high boots for a cute and casual winter look.

Manière De Voire is such a great brand. I walked into their storefront in London, and their quality for the price is amazing. They could easily be charging 30% more for what they offer, but they don’t. This scarf jacket is basically a longer version of the Toteme one.. a little different, but same concept. They’re based in London, but there are no tariffs charged on their goods shipped to the U.S.

I am really in love with this wool cape from J McLaughlin. It’s a little different from the Toteme scarf jacket but still has that cozy and elevated feel. I love the contrasting faux leather trim and the matching scarf - it kinda gives off that classy English countryside vibe. The fabric is a mix of rayon and wool, so it’s lighter and easy to throw on over jeans and a turtleneck. It also makes it a great piece that you can wear in the Spring time as well.
Love this one from Elle Collection and it’s sold at Bloomingdale’s for under $200! The fit looks very similar to the toteme jacket and the black color makes it very easy to dress up or down. I would pair it with straight leg jeans, a fitted body con skims long sleeve, and ankle boots for daytime, or with leather pants and heels for a night time dinner look. Again, I feel like the color is so versatile making it great for running errands, casual work days, or weekend brunch.
This Aritzia wool coat is made from 90% wool and sourced at a premier Italian wool mill, so you know the quality on this is good. It has that clean look that Aritzia does so well and feels super soft but also structured if that makes any sense.
I’d pair it with wide leg trousers (which Artizia has a lot of) and a turtleneck. Depending on my mood I would top it off with loafers or heeld booties. This coat is just a piece that will elevate any outfit you throw on.

BCBG doesn’t get the credit it deserves sometimes. This scarf jacket is currently on sale at Nordstrom, and this is exactly how I would style it for the Fall and Winter. I think it would look really cute to pair with ugg tazz slippers or ankle boots depending on where I am headed.

I personally think the Toteme scarf jacket is so popular because of its innovative idea of having a detachable scarf. It completes the entire look and makes it one of those jackets where you’re like, “woah, what is that?” I also think it’s gained popularity because so many influencers have been wearing and styling it on Instagram and other major social media platforms.
I think the dupes can come very close to the original if you look at the composition and style. For example, the Quince scarf jacket is 100% wool and resembles the original Toteme jacket almost perfectly. It's also important to note that the original toteme jacket is not even 100% wool! Crazy that they are charging that price.
However, I actually think that makes it more unique and not an exact copy. In terms of material, thickness, fit, and quality, it comes pretty close. It really just depends on how much you’re willing to spend. For example, you won’t get an exact match if you’re paying $60. Most likely, that dupe is made from polyester and won’t last very long.
Some Toteme scarf jacket dupes are made from 100% real wool, while some of the more affordable ones are made from polyester or rayon.
It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you care about quality and how long the coat will last, there are some great affordable alternatives that are just as good as the original. But if you love designer pieces and want the brand name tag, then I’d say go for the original Toteme jacket.
For the fall, I would style my scarf jacket with black leggings, mid-calf platform boots, and my favorite designer bag.
As the season gets colder in the winter, I’d pair my scarf jacket with thicker bottoms like dark denim skinny jeans, knee-high leather boots, a beanie, and either a crossbody or mini designer bag depending on where you’re going.
